check engine light comes on, and off
 

I own 2006 RR HSE 62,000 miles. Code PO171 shows up, bank 1 running lean says the code reader, after turn car on and off 3 or 4 times check engine light goes out. Does anyone now would could cause this? Should I be nervous of future major problems? Thanks for the help.

When was it last tuned, what octane gas are you using?
Lean codes are usually from vacuum leaks and or the MAF.

Had dealer service it at 57,000 miles. Code was not present then. Octane is 91 or better ,always. Light has been off for a couple of days now. Come to think of it, i did add STP fuel injector cleaner a tank full or two ago. Could that cause code to show up?

Don't waste you money on STP, it is pure junk.

lean codes are usually caused by leaks but alot times on the newer jag engines its fuel injectors get a little varnished by crappy gas. In the rare instance it can be caused by too much ethanol. we can check the ethanol content by taking a fuel sample and using a device that allows us to measure the water content of the gas. when it separates the larger the amount the larger the percentage of ethanol.

But the injector service at the dealer cures the problem. we hook up directly to the injectors and the vehicle runs off the injector cleaner until it runs out. then we add the 44k into the gas tank. works like a charm. cures the code. usually you get a 0102 if it is the maf sensor. but that is actually caused more by a slightly carboned up throttle plate. but the kit that you get from bg has some of the cleaner in it.

but don't overdue the cleaning. too much and you can ruin stuff.
