Coil Spring ID

Any way to tell if a coil is actually what it the person says it is?
I recently got these in a parts lot I purchased. Box says Old man Emu so did the owner. But when compared to my stock springs they look identical.

Rover OE springs are color coded with paint splotches to mark the different versions. So they don't appear to be land rover springs put back in the OME box after installing a lift. And they look too clean. Any reason you doubt they are OME springs?

These actually have purple markings on them. My only doubt was I happen to have my stock springs laying right here and they look identical in height and thickness.

If OE single purple stripe indicates rear D2 springs for a 5 seater.

Damn. Sounds like these are stockers. The parts lot was off a lifted truck. Well I'll throw em up for free in the classifieds.

Any difference between D1 and D2 springs?

Is that a Corvair in the back ground?

Generally there isn't much height difference in stock to lift springs the rates on the lift springs are higher though.

If it turns out they aren't lift springs than I would let the seller know and see what he wants to do to make it right.

It's pretty easy to pop in a rear spring, why not measure where you are at now wheel center to fender lip and then put a new spring in and see what the measured change is.

Shouldn't take long to accomplish and the tape will tell the tail.

Yep. It's a 63 convertible. Attachment 39145

I'm big into classics too. I like odd stuff. I've had Edsels, Kaiser, and a few of the main makes too. This is my 4th Corvair.

I may just take your advice on the spring. Just to be sure. I don't need them either way. I was Gonna try and trade them for parts I do need. But I'm not going to rip someone off.

Are the color codes on the other set different? If they are pink and orange, that would pretty much confirm they are an OE set. That SHOULD be the color code for the front a D2.

There are differences between D1 and D2 springs, but there is quite a bit of over lap, as I found out recently. Normally D1 has different springs for different sides (driver and passenger) of the car, while D2 in LHD configurations does not have different spring on each side, at least not on OE springs.

I think D2 rear springs are usually a heavier springs rate than D1 rears springs.... but don't hold me to that.

Nice I dig the satin finish. I'm into classics as well with the 83 110 and a 72 MGB as my drivers. I have a 72 Mustang Fastback I need to get to work on someday as well.

Here is a link to the chart of the color codes I found for the springs. If you scroll down a bit you'll find some specs on OME springs as well.

Hey thanks. That's a wealth of information.

I had a 76 MGB. Aside from the black bumpers I loved it. It was same color as yours. Also have a 73 Datsun 240 under construction and getting a small block Chevy. 62 Econoline pick up too. All need lots of attention. The Land Rover has my focus at the moment.
