cruise control works from time to time

Hi, my cruise control works once in a while. I don't understand, I checked the vacuum hoses and they are ok. Sometimes I try to turn the cruise control on and it's not working at all. If I stop the car and restart it, then it works but only for a limited time. It will stop suddenly and there is no way to start it again
Do you have any idea where it could come from?
Thanks for any suggestions

I was messing with my cruise control and ended up getting a speeding ticket for 22 over. It's not working properly. Any ideas about this?

Well, if the original poster is still waiting, very patiently I might add, he should check his brake light switch on pedal.

Need more info, from poster number two. Like...what were you "messing" with? And we're you going 22 mph over the speed limit when you set the cruise? Or did you set it at 55 mph (in a 55 zone) and it climbed higher as you drove?

Brian.
