Dead battery that’s brand new

looking for some insight if anyone has an idea to what’s going on. We have a 2008 Range Rover sport. The battery light came on. Had it checked out an auto store, battery and alternator tested fine. Few weeks later car dies while driving it, everything turns off, it’s dead. Have it towed back home bought a new battery it turned over and ran. Haven’t driven it since that. Been a week or so went out to start it and it’s dead. Won’t even jump. Was taking it to the mechanic to get new alternator but now I’m not sure if that’s the problem or if it’s much bigger than that. Any ideas?

Alternator is most likely actually bad despite the good test. Do you remember what voltage it generated? The reason the vehicle died during driving is that the battery was not charging from the alternator. The vehicle eventually depleted the battery's charge and had no power left to keep itself running. In addition, the battery you purchased may not have been fully charged, or the vehicle discharged it on the way home leaving the computer systems to use the rest of the charge over the course of the week. A larger electrical issue is always a possibility, but a bad alternator is the most probable and a good starting point. Good luck!
