Default I am so sad !!!95 RR won't start

First of all, complete newbie to the forumand VERY excited that you exist.

My 16 1/2year old son has saved FOREVER to buy his first car and got this 95 RR. Had a few things repaired on it and checked out before he got his license to be sure everything safe, but nothing major.
Now, one week after he has his license, the car won't start!!
He said it happened once or twice previously, but then it would start.
When you turn the key on, all the lights and sounds come on, and then NOTHING! Sometimes, you hear a click, sometimes not.The engine does not even attempt to wind over.

I am scared (and devistated for him)that it may be something expensive.

Can anyone out there give me best and worst case scenarios.
We are going out of town and cannot have anyone look at it for a week. That is the other thing that frightens me, that a mechanic could tell him anything, and he will not know any difference!

I don't like to be a pain but I have had RR for well over 20 years and I certainly wouldn't/couldn't recommend one of my sons bought one other than a pre '89 which maybe a bit different in the US. but generally one without a computer is OK.

The model (Shape) that existed from '95 to 2000 is a particulary expensive and complicated vehicle to own and work on and should ONLY be worked on by a specialis RR mechanic, special diagnostic (Computer) tools are a must, usually these RR are cheap to buy, it's a pity you didn't come here prior to purchase but like the rest of this community why would you have had the need before now.

Range Rovers and Disco's are really an enthusiasts vehicle, thats why these forums exist.

Someone will shoot me down for this but based on my limited knowledge and ownership (Over 20 years) this is the reality, of course I can only speak for vehicles in Australia..

Good luck.

Thanks for the 'non-answer'.

FYI -I wasn't aware that there was an 'enthusiast law' to owning a Range Rover, butmy son has been an enthusiast since he could read. Our family has always owned them, and for that reason and from a safety aspect, we agreed to allow him to buy himself what he could afford - after having it checked out.
We have had and only ever have Range Rover certified mechanics look at our cars. I was simply asking a question, to give my son something to go by, until we get it to the shop.
I was not asking your advise for the type of cay my son should own.

Then you should explain yourself better, you said you were a complete newbie, it appeared that you were asking for advice, which I gave freely, willingly and stand by.

In no part of your post did you indicate you were a'RR expert' or had great knowledge or these vehicles, take the vehicle to your certified mechanic if that's what you want to do no body here is stopping you, or don't you trust him, I assume it was checked out by him prior to purchase so ask him what the problem is - DON'T WASTE MINE OR OTHERS TIME, there are people who actually appreciate ANY help they can glean from this and other forums from contributors who are not 'Experts' but very often past owners of a large number of these vehicles, over many years, with a wealth of knowledge they offer for free.

Go look at yourself before you start shooting the messengers.

If you re-read the post - I said newbie to the forum!
Second of all, you gave absolutely NO advice pertaining to the question AT ALL! YOU, therefore, are the one waisting peoples time and effort, and also giving this forum a bad rep. I posted because I completely respected the advice the people were giving.
Thirdly, I am a RR owner, but never claimed to be an expert. I was simply asking for an answer of what may well be, and you gave me nothing but complete dribble.
Finally, I too am from Oz, and you have just reinforced the reason that I no longer live there. From what I remember most people there only own older RR because they are free for the taking and cannot afford anything better!
GET A LIFE!!!

OK, OK,so you are a disaffected Aussie, (Or are you really from the UK or somewhere else?)who left our shores forthe USA, (No that wasn't a hurricane you heard, just the collective sigh of reliefe from the rest of Americawhen they learnt that you aren't American) so in your time in the USA you have probably heard the term "Dumb ***" and in your time in Oz heard the term "F Wit" and probably took the adviceto "F Off", "Dumb ***" is a US term you shouldget used to because if you continue to live in the US you will hear it often when people address you personally, though, because most Americans I know are a pretty polite bunch they may not say it to your face (Unlike us in Oz ), the second two are of course good old Ozterms often but not always used in the same breath, you obviously took the advice, thank you, now do the right thing, have a lay down, take a pill watch Dr Phil, then go visit your therapist in your RR,thats a goodgirl.
