Disco II Sunroof

2000 Disco II... forward sunroof no longer responds to buttons... simply "chatters" when pushing the button. I can force it to run closed or open (i.e., push the window while holding the button), but am afraid of the potential damage.

Started as a tracking problem, push to tilt and it would slide back an inch also. Then an inch became 3, and 5, and so on, until it came completely unhinged (so to speak).

My mechanic refuses to work on it, claiming the roof liner has to come out - too much work and potentially thousands in labor.

Anyone know of a way to re-set the track or re-position the window correctly?

Appreciate any thoughts/insight,
Larry

You will need to replace the track and motor to get it back working. You should also be able to open the rectangular trim plate and open the sun roof with an allen wrench in the mean time.

Mike, thanks. Where is this rectangular trim plate? I can find the track parts, the glass roof and a solid bar across the front edge of the glass, but don't see any trim plate (unless it's where the open/close buttons are?).

Appreciate your help (once again);
Thanks,
Larry

Look up when sitting in your drivers seat, look at the vinyl trim up by the switch, it is in front of it.

You need to verify if it is the whole assembly or just the motor. You can get good guaranteed motors cheap,

No real reason to replace both at the same time, the rear may last a lot longer, especially if it is kept clean and lubed.
