Default removing axel shaft from 1998 discovery

i am trying to replace the wheel bearings on the rear passenger side of the differential. The Stub side. For some reason i can't get the axel shaft out. I have removed the 5 bolts holding it on. Is there something i am missing? is there something in the differential that is holding it on? This is a 1998 Discovery 50th anniversary edition. I have looked at manuals and talked to a few people and i can't seem to get it out. Any help would greatly appreciated!!

There is a paper gasket under the drive flange, usually. If you've got the bolts out and nothing is broken inside, it should just pull out.

Here is a photo from my defender rear axle:

Should be mostly the same, except this axle had drum brakes instead if disc.

Thanks that what i thought. I have tried a slide hammer, 6 foot steel pry bar and i can't get it out. i guess i will have to open the differential and see if there is anything screwed up inside.

If you jack up both rear wheels, can you twist the flange? Or does the flange move if you turn the other wheel? If not, you might need to tap it with a hammer or punch or something to break the seal the gasket has made.
