fuel pump repair/replacement
I have just been given a 1998 range rover. Last wish of dying aunt to give it to me to give to my son next year for first vehicle. Unfortunately, it won't start. It did, albeit, not an easy start, but suddenly won't start at all. I had a mechanic friend put it on computer for errors, of which he found none. He did, however, get a fuel pressure reading of 14. He suspects a fuel pump and a fuel filter will solve this problem. Much to my dismay, the $60 fuel pump we initially found online does not fit our vin#WA392883. It only goes up to #WA37's. Our pump seems to be around $500!!! It is at his garage now, not yet dropped the tank to remove the pump. Does anybody have any suggestions on a more cost effective replacement? Can the pump be rebuilt and use the original assembly? Many thanks for help...

You probably don't need to drop the tank. Lift up the carpet in the back and there should be an access panel that you can take the 6 screws out and have access to the pump.

Thanks..I was looking at that one too. Seems, what I can gather, that the stc4344 is for 95-97. The stc4345 is supposedly 1998 & later. Although the original # isn't exact that the seller quotes replacement for. I will send them a question or two. I think my mechanic should have the tank down and old one out this week. Something tells me to be patient & get a look at the original before pulling the trigger.

Just a quick update. Mechanic got tank down, pump out. Using some specs he got somewhere???, he tried unsuccessfully to match up with similar year caprice...would have worked but not enough pressure. Ended up with a 1996 berretta pump...more pressure. Everything working like it's new. Don't know how long it will last, but for $50 bucks and some beer, not a bad fix for the moment.....oh, $65 if you throw in the fuel filter...
