How much mileage is too much when buying a used vehicle?

I am hoping you can help me...I am going to buy a used Range Rover or Discovery, but wanted to know what is generally acceptable in "used" mileage. For instance,I know that my BMW 5 series will go easily to 150k because it has had great service (and a little good luck from the Gods ). Should I stay away from anything over a certain mileage knowing that I will have huge bill on the near horizon?

Any help greatly appreciated. I realize $ usually =mileage, but not always

If you find a Disco that's well maintained it will last to 300,000.

I have just baught a disco with 126000 on the clock & all seems well it doesn't appear to have had hard use very little rust & it drives nice no nasty rattles or clunks it is N reg 96 I paid £1900 for it from trader, I expect if you look carefuly you could get a better deal privately, if you can wait patienly ( I couldn't) cos I'm a gadget freak.

That's actually a pretty good deal. Just so you know you must use high octane gas. I would recommend doing DiscoMike's 60k service asap just do a search for it or if that doesn't turn it up I'm sure he'll post it anyway :P

Anyway, hope you find you'll love your Disco just as much as we do. Any questions you may have, this forum is the place for them.
