Default Alternate shorter MANN oil filter

An alternate size to the mongo MANN 950/4 (Purolator L40316) is the MANN 940/25. Same bypass valve rating, internal low restriction material, and thread. Saw that Advance Auto was now stocking these on their shelves, and the 950/4 that I went in for was only available at another store 50 miles away. I'll stock up next time.

But this shorter filter might be just the thing for trucks with modded suspension, etc. It is still bigger than the "baby filters". $6, so cheap enough that you can afford to change your oil at realistic drain intevals, not 25,000 whether it needs it or not.

Great to know Savannah.

I just used the larger Mann on mine and I love it. I had previously put on the K&N Gold that was twice the price of the Mann and the "socket drive" portion of the K&N is much inferior to that of the Mann. It's smooth painted surface does not allow the socket to work as well as the much better made Mann Filter.

I plan to stock up on the Mann. Pep Boys had them, but only had two at the time. When I picked hem up, one fell out of the box and smacked the floor hard enough to dent that area so I bought the other one.

I would suppose that the inventory control software that checks re-order points would get pushed to red line if we all went into the stores and ordered one of those filters. They might become more common.

Now what we need is an ultrasonic "probe" that you could shove down the dip stick hole, and "vibrate" the oil and cleaning solvent at some frequency yet to be determined to eat off more gunk. Or a garden sprayer with solvent sprayer in the oil drain to eat gunk off the pickup. And a "snake" camera to see the results. Or an afternoon spent R&R the oil pan.

So size wise Buzz, that is bigger than the OEM filter but is it still bigger than the oversized filters that most of the guys use?
Or is it the same size as those?

I'm about 1500 miles away from a oil change and I am thinking of using this shorter MANN oil filter but I am defiantly trying this oil.

I think it would be close to a Wix 51515. The filter material "low loss" is the plus for me. How much is that oil?

Alright, cool. I think I will see if I can find it.
I can get that oil for $20 a gallon.

I'll check with our local Connoco/Phillips supplier, Colonial Oil - in addition to a chain of service stations, and oil distributor, they operate a 100 acre ocean teminal in the port for all things oil. For others that want the oil, see Marketers Search - ConocoPhillips Lubricants to find a source near you.

Also available world wide at Marketers/Distributors - ConocoPhillips Lubricants

Amazon has it for $50 for 3 gallons in quarts Amazon.com: Kendall 1056017 Super-D XA Premium Synthetic Blend 15W-40 Diesel Engine Oil with Liquid Titanium - 1 Quart (Case of 12): Automotive

or $63 for a 4 gallon pack. Amazon.com: Kendall 1056016 Super-D XA Premium Synthetic Blend 15W-40 Diesel Engine Oil with Liquid Titanium - 1 Gallon (Case of 4): Automotive

Spike, just curious, why would you want to go back to qa smaller filter with less filtering media inside?

The place I'm going to buy it from is where I buy the fuel for my van everyday.
The distributor he is getting it from does not do counter sales, so I have to buy it from this guy, no one else in town carries Kendall diesel oil, only motor cycle and car motor oil.
The only reason I am going to use it is because it is a syn-blend.
I was going to use Rotella HD-30 again for the summer but I wont drive 5,000 miles before winter and that will be to thick in the morning's come fall.
If I lived down south where it was warm all the time, you bet your *** I'd use Rotella HD-30 all the time.

I have NEVER used the larger oil filter Mike, never.
I have always used the OEM sized filter.
If I can find it I am going to try the MANN filter, it is larger than the OEM filter but still smaller than the huge mongo sized filter some of these guys use.
