retraction of piston in rear caliper

Trying to put new rear pads and discs on my sons discovery. Removed left rear caliper and pads. To remove frozen disc I had to put in neutral gear to rotate disc. Stepped on brake to disengage gears and piston extended out of caliper, not enough to remove rubber boot. I cannot get piston to slide back into caliper. With other cars I have simply used a clamp to retractthe pistonor rotate piston in like a screw. I have also opened bleeder valve to release fluid pressure but nothing I've tried works. Thanks for any help, Mike

If there is not too much damage, you may be able to rebuild that caliper, most likely though a remanufactured one would be better.

Disco Mike, Thanks for the reply. I removed the caliper and was able to retract piston with a vice. It was too late to bleed and I will have to do it when I get home. Any chance no permanent damage was done? Mike

That will be determined by a visual inspection.
