Thoughts on AMSOIL

I'm getting ready to go thru my rover with a fine tooth comb. Im at 124,000 miles with no issues outside of the normal.

Anyway, Im looking at switching from the Castroil products to the AMSOIL 5W40 european blend (product number AFLQT-EA) good product?, overkill? What do you think.

IMHO using a high priced oil to extend drain interval beyound 5000 miles is foolish. Put the extra folding money on an Ultra Gauge. Good clean cheap diesel rated 15W40 does a great job of cleaning, and the soot handling function of the oil keeps dirt where jumbo filter can grab it.

Here's pix at close to 190,000 on Castrol and Rotella.

I agree with Buzz, where you live use Rotella 15w-40 and change it every 5,000 miles using a any name brand oil filter you want as long as it is not orange and black. (Fram)
I use either NAPA's middle of the road oil filter or a Purolator oil filter, my Advance Auto puts Purolator Pure1 oil filters on sale for 2-for-$10 so I buy them then.

If you were a travelling sales man who drove 50k a year then yes, use the Amsoil with a Mobil1 oil filter and change the oil every 15k, other wise you are wasting your money.

Also dont waste your money on the over priced oil filters, they do not protect any better than the filters I use but they do hold more dirt which is what you want if you do extended oil drains.
If you do normal oil changes you are again wasting your money buy buying the overpriced oil filters.
