2017 Discovery vs LR4 specs
 

The new Discovery has some very impressive specifications. In discussions with Land Rover the new Discovery will out perform the LR4 off road.
With almost 2 more inches ground clearance, 1,000 pounds lighter and better approach and departure angles, the new Discovery is an off road beast. Add our newly developed 1.5 inch Johnson Rod lift kit for the new Discovery and this vehicle is ready for serious trail use.

Some people traded back to a LR4 after driving a Disco 4.

Less bumby ride (due to the frame and weight)
etc.
Looks - LR3/4 traditional rover looks vs new Ford crossover SUV look that makes it look like every other SUV on the road.

The Discovery 5 is gaining in popularity as more people get used to it and start to do mods. The comparison chart shows the specs but report from those who have taken the D5 off road are very good. Add the lift and off road tires is a good start.
