Default Drain hole added to front power transfer unit

All,

As some of you know its very difficult to remove the Gear Oil from the front differential on the LR2 (Freelander 2)

After some research on the internet I decide to make my own drain.

I removed one of the bolts that joins the side flange to the main casting and I drilled out the back of the hole so that the oil would drain out.

Standard disclaimers apply, if you want to attempt this modification on your vehicle you do so at your own risk.

I drilled a very small hole about 1/8" so that I didn't interfere with the threads in the casting.

My LR2 is a 3.2 Volvo 6 cylinder but the procedure should be similar for the diesel.

Its not obvious in the pictures but I raised the LR2 from the opposite side so that most of the gear oil would drain out.

To seal the hole I just reinstalled the bolt.

If It leaks I will install a Copper washer or Aluminum washer in place of the steel washer.

Enjoy

Paul
