LR2 Unknown starting problem

Hi all, I'm new and completely lost. I have a 2010 LR2. The car has been to 2 garages and they cannot diagnose the problem (the second being the regional authorized Landrover Garage).

When the engine is cold, I have no trouble starting.
When the engine is at temp having been driven a short distance, if I stop the car, the car will not restart. The starter will turn over, but it's as if the fuel isn't being fed to the engine and doesn't fire.
If I open the bonnet, let the hot air out and cool the engine slightly, then the car starts.

For a while I thought it was an air flow issue, as the car seemed to start when I opened the air filter cover - but recently I have just left the bonnet open and have the same effect.

Any suggestions, thoughts?

Thanks so much

Which engine? How far is 'a short distance'?

Thanks for your reply, its the 3.2l petrol. The short distance can be anything that makes it warm; 10 mins (2 junctions) on the motorway; 10 mins of city driving.

thanks

MAF and intake air temperature are the likely culprits, both are the same unit I believe. Get the appropriate cleaner and and give that a go.

Thank you. Cleaner bought on amazon, will arrive tomorrow. I've found a video of the job for an LR3 on you tube - hopes its similar. Will update in a couple of days...

Try not to get any spray on the rubber gasket or ring if possible. In addition, the screws that retain the sensor are screwed into plastic (same with air box cover), they just have to be snug.

If those sensors are that dirty, there might be a reason... if cleaning it fixes the problem look for air leaks around the filter, missing filter, and oil contamination in the intake system.

Appreciate all the tips, thank you so much. Liqui Moly cleaner just arrived. Lets go
