Sorry, but that is exactly what I did. I bought the trailer wiring system for the Freelander 2 because the US version is not in stock anywhere, then I bought two adapters, one for 7 pin US and another for 4 pin US. You can go to any U-Haul store and they will install a generic wiring kit spliced to the car, but what you don't get with that is the car's awareness of a trailer being connected to the car. I would not just blindly splice wires, you may overload the circuits when a trailer is connected and it needs more power to the trailer lighting.

The trick to finding affordable EU-specific stuff (or even alternatives, like the dual-fan radiator) is to look for salvage yards in the EU.

Here are the instructions to install the OEM kit.

I use www.car-part.com A LOT. It centralizes all salvage yards in the US, and if you search for trailer hitches you may find a US OEM kit cheap.

Google for: 2014 freelander 2 caravan wiring and I am sure you will find many other options.

(This is why my clients call me "The Gopher." I can find anything using Google searches.)

Followed the link to the harness recommended, and shipping is more than the cost of the item. Crazy times!

@flybd5 I noticed the car-part website provides a drop-down list where you select the item you are looking for. What if your item is not on their list? I was looking for an other/free-form entry option but didn't see one. Do you know a solution?

Look for things where it would make sense to find what you want attached to it, like trailer hitches. If you see an OEM hitch wiring connector on the picture of the hitch on the donor vehicle, you can then call the yard and see if they will sell you just that.
