And I was afraid of that. The way it looks, do I need to remove all the bolts around the perimeter of it or just the larger ones. The smaller bolts look like they may hold the valve body assembly itself together.
I'll suggest from watching a different video on a different model LR that you remove the large bolts first and see if it comes out. Just remember, free advice is worth what it costs you. Anyway, that's what I would do.

Free advice may be worth what's paid but it's still richer than what I've got. I'll probably try to get the valve body out tomorrow then. There's just too many mosquitoes out tonight.

And the Video part, I've been looking but the transmissions are pretty different. A lot of the vehicles have the solenoids in a line down the side instead of this thing

The videos are indeed for various models, not the LR2 or Freelander 2, but since there aren't any that you want, do the best that you can with what you can find.

It's the top one but i also noticed yesterday that, while on, they can get pretty warm but it alone was cold, even while plugged in with accessory mode on
I pulled the live data from my working 2012 LR2. Ignition on, in park, not running.

I dont think those solenoids are going to stop it from starting. They control fluid pressure and flow in the valve body, when its not running they arent going to do much.. no fluid flow or pressure.
I also show that same solenoid at .2 Amps, and mine will start right up. (see the file)
(161 Gear Display) is what is showing the actual gear position in mine, the value for (164 Gear Engaged) always says reverse gear.. When i change from park to reverse ,not running, Gear Display changes, Gear engaged doesnt.
Again, mine starts and runs fine.
Things that WILL stop it from starting.. foot must be on the brake when starting, check the stop lamp switch hasnt come off, ohm it out, check the fuse for it (fs28) in the central junction box. check fs27 also, its the fuse for the start circuit.
The stop lamp switch gives an input to the engine ECM to allow starting, if it isnt getting this it aint gonna start.

If the shifter is all the way up in park maybe disconnect the linkage at the top of the transmission and manually try to put in park , maybe its just not adjusted properly? Possible start/stop switch bad?

Just trying to help, im not a transsmision expert.
