Won't Start after Alarm Set Off
 

Last week we put a new starter in our 2008 LR2, and had the battery tested, which tested good. Suddenly on my lunch break I heard my alarm go off. I went to check, no issues, just went off by itself and red light was flashing inside the cab. But, now the car won't start. No error messages, just won't crank at all. We tried to jump it, that did not work. We tried disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes and that did nothing. We tried missing with the locks using the key FOB, nothing. Messed with the windows because we read some trick online, nothing, did not help. The radio and everything else works normally. Hooked of FIXD OBD2 scanner, but no issues were found.

Any ideas?

Thanks everyone for and help you can lend. We are too far away from a certified Land Rover mechanic to even consider towing and having a professional take a look.

Could be the starter. That's what mine did when it failed. It did seem to not start as "crisply" as usual for a few months before it failed, if you noticed that by chance.

The alarm going off for no reason is almost certainly the switch on the hood. The part is cheap (by LR standards) and you can replace it yourself fairly easily (there are you tube videos as to how).

Thank you for the response but we just replaced the starter last week. Unless it was faulty, but it just seems like a huge coincidence that the alarm went off by itself. Seems related in someway, that the alarm has locked off the engine somehow.

My hood switch failed around 100K, about the same time the starter did.
