2006 LR3 Sun roof problem

Greetings all!

I have a 2006 LR3 and my sun roof is just plain dead. No motor noise, no led lights on the switch, nothing. It has been this way for years. Luckily it died in the closed position so I really never gave it much thought. I really can't justify spending 10% of the vehicles value at the repair shop so I thought I would try and tackle the problem myself.

yes I checked and replaced the fuse and I am still here scratching my head.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with having to replace the Control module P.N. # LR004160 ? My thought was that if it was just the motor failing I might hear some kind of noise or see the LED lights come on when the switch is pressed. I'm not saying my thoughts are correct. I'm just saying...

Does anyone know of a simple method for me to bypass the module and get current directly to the motor to see if the motor is still operational? I'm thinking that if the motor is in fact still working I would replace the module and go from there. And to be perfectly honest tearing out the headliner and replacing the motor is really not something I am looking forward to.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

A few notes from the shop manual:

If the battery has been disconnected, the one touch and anti-trap function will become inoperative.
Close the roof opening panel and continue to hold the switch for a further 20 seconds to allow the
sunroof to complete a full cycle. This will complete the roof opening panels calibration routine and
reset these functions

The motor has power on pins 5 & 6. The other pins are Hall Effect switches (electronic) that supply speed and direction of travel to the roof panel computer.

Might want to look over these sections of the shop manual, which is a free download below. Includes schematics, and how to remove motor, ECU, etc.

Definitely try the 20 second hold thing and be SURE to hold it for a full 20 s.

Here is what i did...

Thank You so much for your reply.

Here is what I did:

I tried the 20 second hold down before I posted this message and as usual I got nothing but a huge sack of disappointment.

That's when I moved on to step 2.

I disconnected the motor from the Control Module (which can be done without removing the entire ceiling panel. It can be accessed simply by removing the rear over head console) and stuck two wires in pin 5,6 (blue/brown) I took the two wires, opened the hood and touched them directly to the battery terminals and it worked perfectly! To close the roof I just reversed the terminals.

Sooo I think it's safe to say the motor is not the problem. Do you think my next course of action should be to replace the Control Module? As I mentioned before the LED lights on the switch do not come on when pressed would a bad Control module keep that from happening?

Thanks again.

Did you get it working. I just bought an LR3 with the same issue.

He only had three posts, which means he probably just visited the forum for a solution to that problem and hasn't been back since. :(

From looking at the wiring diagram, it seems that there are two fusible links, one fuse, and the switch that are in the circuit path of the sunroof.

I would check the following items in the following order:

1. Check Fuse 20P... actually, don't just check it, replace it.
2. Check fusible link 18E (50 amps)
3. Check fusible link 11E (30 amps)
4. Try Savannah Buzz's 20 sec hold procedure

I would normally then say to test the switch, but I have a feeling there's probably some computerized wizardry in the switch and it may not be quite as simple as just testing continuity across the contacts in the open and closed positions. Therefore, it might be easier just to test the motor instead by following what was already written in this post... provide 12v directly to the sunroof motor to see if it will operate.

If that works, then it might be worthwhile to test the switch somehow before assuming it is the control module.

Keep us informed of your findings!

Thanks cmb6s,

Not much info to contribute back from my end this time. Pressing the switch for 20+x sec did the trick. :)

The simple fixes are always the best!

Bringing an old post from the grave, but just chiming in that after two months without any driving, my sunroof got stuck in the open position. No tricks closed it this time except the direct 12v bypass. Will update once/if I find out whether it’s the switch or the module. All fuses are ok.

LR3 Sunroof stuck open!!!

Hi, did you manage to fix the sunroof issue? I have a 2007 and the sunroof is stuck open, i've done the fuses, all good, don the 20 sec reset, didn't work, any other suggestions? I read somewhere that you can run live wires from a 12v to the switch points and it will close but I can't find where I read it to try it lol So, any ideas on how to close t would be great. TY :) Chris

And any thoughts on why i keep getting suspension fault warning light coming on? LR3s don't you just love em??? lol ;)
