Best year/years for an LR3

I have a 1998 that I'm in love with. I'm thinking about trading in my 08 Subaru STi for a LR3. Can't afford a LR4. Done some research but I would like to see what you think as far as which are the better years. I won't go anything older than an 06. It wont be just a grocery getter but it won't be a heavy off roader either. I'll save that for my D1. Thanks in advance.

I personally think they are all about the same, making several assumptions;

1. the previous owners care and attention
2. all services / firmware up to date
3. not been used in the northeast / salted roads
4. low mileage
5. all service history available for your review, including recommendations not done, such as diffs, bushings, bearings and so on.
6. are the Diffs good, how often have fluids been changed; oil, diff, transfer, transmission. Belts? and so on.

owners awareness of issues, and any actions taken accordingly proactively.

and so on..

good luck

A total newbie here, seriously contemplating buying an '06 LR3 SE.
Your comment #3 caught my attention.
Is there anything specific about LR3s that makes them vulnerable to increased wear and tear / corrosion from salt, weather? Or are you speaking generally?
