Buying a LR3 need advice
ok so i got my mother convinced to buy a land rover and we found a 2007 land rover lr3 HSE for sale at a local used car dealer. what i need to know is being i only have a disco 2 and dont know much about the newer suspension what are some of the problems that happen to the LR3s this one has 59k miles exactly and im not sure what the status is on its warranty is. i dont want her to get one and have tons of the "land rover problems" and have to pay out of pocket at the dealer for the suspension and other expensive problems. which brings me to the next think what is the best aftermarket warranty and where do i buy one because i dont believe the dealer we are getting it from sells a warranty.

If you're going to buy an LR3, do a lot of homework and search through the forums for common issues, maintenance requirements, etc. They are great vehicles but if you don't do your homework, there can be a lot of sophisticated issues to sort through. That being said, they are light years ahead of the Disco2 in all aspects including reliability, 07+ especially. Plan on needing tires/brakes and possibly control arms every 30-40k depending on how you drive. Alignments at least annually are a good idea. The air compressor and airbags will likely need replacing by 100k, but some are well beyond that with no issues. Batteries need to be in tip top shape due to all electronics.
Your best bet is to buy one that has full service records, make sure it didn't have recurring issues, and have it thoroughly inspected by a competent dealer or LR mechanic before buying. They are really great vehicles, you just have to pay attention to them. Good luck.
