Cheapest battery for 2008 lr3
 

What is the cheapest battery that I can put in my 2008 LR3 that will not cause issues and last at least a year or so?
I have read that 950 cold cranking amps is suggested. The ones I am seeing online are over $200.
Is there a more economical option here?

Cheapest will probably be a lead acid H7 from Walmart, Sam's, or Costco.
Should be able to get closer to $150.

. . . but why do you only want it to last 1 year?

if it lasts over a year then great. the vehicle is currently not running and has a multitude of issues. battery is dead and will not charge so i am starting with a battery replacement just to try and get it turn over, then i will look into possible alternator/starter issues. so, i just want the cheapest option to get the ball rolling at this point.

I got a group 49 size (1 size larger with a bit more reserve and amps) AGM one recently from Batteries Plus for about $170 plus tax and core charge, with I think a $10 off coupon from them for signing up to their email list.

The manufacturer specified Interstate battery is $180-190, around $30 more than the cheapest options suggested here. These will last 2-4 years and come with a warranty for longer.

AGM batteries are great because of their high CCA, but they may have a shorter lifetime in an LR3 because the BMS is designed for a lead acid battery, and will not fully recharge the AGM in all circumstances (or so I’ve read). For long life out of an AGM in an LR3, a battery tender will be necessary to periodically bring the charge to full.

I agree on the battery tender for sure. In my experience neither the lead acid or agm batteries are properly and fully charged if left up to just the vehicle's charging system. It does an ok job, but that's about it. And that just ok job is what results in the short battery life we've all experienced.

Perhaps.. perhaps not. I’m sure here’s some science behind the url you posted but “up here” all the stealerships and independents fit AGM batteries to D3s. I asked about the same 3 years ago from an independent and they said they don’t fit anything else.

Mine for example has a Bosch AGM 950 CCA battery and absolutely no issues staring here in -30 oC temperatures in the winter. Not many places sell non-AGM ones that would fit the D3 or D4 and have the required specifications, too.

I have the Costco lead acid one which I got 2 years ago for about $140 CDN and it is still going strong. Once I fixed the corroding electrical connection problems I have had no problems with the charging or starting systems. On my BMW motorcycle I had an AGM battery and didn't have any problems even though it was designed for a lead acid battery (1991 BMW K75RT w/ABS)...

Well, my Costco battery just died (couldn't pass the load test) and wouldn't hold much of a charge, so it lasted for 2 1/2 years (May19 2019 - Dec 7 2021), not bad for the stresses of our weather here in Canada. Will advise later on its replacement...

Had a Worldsource 940 CCA installed by shop (pretty darned pricey), we'll see how it lives through our Alberta crazy weather...
