Coolant, I searched, I promise

So what kind of coolant goes in an LR3? I know the owners manual says Castrol SF, which is no where to be found. O'reilly's can get Pentosin SF, but is it the same? They say it's violet and the stuff I've got now is kind of pink or maybe orange. I've seen the pink Jag stuff, but I don't really want to pay extra for Jag or Rover antifreeze and I'd really like to be able to buy it local, which neither of those dealers are. I've also seen a post or two say dexcool, but I'm not sure if I believe it.

In my copy of the shop manual, under cooling system for 4.0 or 4.4, the spec is:

Havoline Extended Life Coolant (XLC) or any ethylene glycol based antifreeze
containing no methanol with only Organic Acid Technology (OAT)
corrosion inhibitors

It also states not to mix with other coolants.

Here is a couple of pages ripped from the shop manual, which you can download completely from my signature.

The on line pix of the product have the word Dexcool shown, so I understand why you would be looking for something else.

Interesting. That's almost exactly what rave says about d2.....

But this is not the RAVE, it is the LR3 manual package. Which you should have read cover to cover by now, just a little lite "Brit Lit" for bedtime reading.

Oh that manual has burned me once already. I take its advice with caution. :)

Here is what the owners manual shows:

This guy says lrn2279 is dexcool.

And I'm not sure how I feel about that. I know how I feel about it on a d2..... But this thing has gone many many miles on it so far.

You just have the owner manual. The shop manual set is a lot more pages. The version I have is 2004 or 05 I think. Some of the UK sites have it up as well. I'd use 50/50 Peak, change every 30,000. This 150,000 mile coolant and diff oil worries me, only Robin Bastid down at the shop will be in favor of it.

No, I've got the pdf manual you've linked to a couple of times. And I've got the owners manual. That PDF manual is sketchy at best. Something as simple as the cylinder layout is incorrect. But I shouldn't complain too much, that might be how I got this D3 so cheap.

Try this link for same data and see if it is any better.

It should be the LR XLC, LRN2279, same as DII, which is not dexcool.

Aside from occasional leaks, and a bad seal on the t-stat, the cooling system of the AJV8 is pretty good. Keep it full, and use the factory stuff.
