Default Transfer Case Reconditioning

So I had an LR4 transfer Case put in my LR3 today so now I want to get my old T Case reconditioned, does any NC members know of any shops who do this work? The box is not that bad and still drives just makes some noise.

Was there any compatibility issues with the 4 case swap??

yes straight swop but you need to calibrate the box with the Land Rover Service Tool.

Good to know as there seems to be a plethora of seemingly compatible parts that can't be swapped over easily.

What was wrong with your transfer case? I believe I am having a problem with mine. I am having a series of clucks when turning. I have taken it to 3 places and they all say it's either the transfer case or the rear diff. Two of the places think that is more than likely the transfer case.

So the two places that looked at it and said that it is most likely the transfer case are wrong?

My Transfer Case had an annoying bearing sound and when we run it on a lift and used a listening tool it had a tap tap coming from inside, as I had a warranty I changed it out as I have a 2000 mile road trip coming up. So no knocking or banging when turning. I would agree yours sounds Diff or suspension related.

You can always take a shot at it yourself. I think the hard part is getting the darn thing out of the truck, which you've already done. There are some guides around the internet on how to crack the transfer case and pull the internal components to get to the bearings and seals. Advancedfactors.co.uk sells rebuild parts for a good price. Don't know of anybody over here in the states to source from though.

Just out of curiosity, could you tell whether the sound was coming from one of the bearings or from the internal components?
