Question Do you need to adjust Emer. Brake when changing rear pads and rotors?

Hey all, Three weeks of ownership on the 2005 LR3 and I am ready to replace the pads and rotors. When I bought the truck the prior owner gave me a set of rotors, pads and sensors. The rotors and pads seem to be routine. I anticipate a little fiddling with the sensors, especially on the front. I am a little concerned about the emergency brake calibration. I am not planning on replacing or adjusting the emergency brake, should I? Do you need to calibrate it if you do not change the shoes or adjust the tension on the emergency brake? Thanks Phil

Yes you do. Here is the reason. As you use the emergency brake, it wears on the inside drum section of the rotor. The drum circumference is getting larger, so the emergency brake mechanism moves out (this will make more sense if you are familiar with drum brakes).

When you replace the rotor, the inner drum is the factory size (smaller since it hasn't worn yet). So now the emergency brake pads are too far out and you will need to adjust them to bring them into spec. Not doing this may cause damage to the braking system

Look up Brody's Brake Bible on disco3 .co.uk and there are great step by step instructions with pictures.

Default Change your EPB brakes as well!!!

Definitely change the ebrakes as well. The first time I changed my brakes I didn't and a couple weeks later one of my rear rotors was making rubbing noises and heating up and I actually cracked it. Also don't forget to adjust the epb and loosen the hex screw and tap the rotors after you get the ebrakes in to have them settle in place and relieve tension. If you follow the Bodsy brake bible you should be all set.
