EGR Valve Delete
 
Looking for someone that has vented their EGR to either a canister or to atmosphere to share what they used to plug the port in the intake.


Was reading that fuel octane could be lowered as the oil filled gas entering the intake stream is one reason for the necessity for running high octane fuel because the hydrocarbons will cause pre detonation. Also, not ever having to clean the throttle body ever again...lol

Doesn't most of that gunk come from the PCV system? That's how it is on my other car (which I don't think has EGR). It's all blow by and oil mist, fed right into the intake.

Don't do this. The EGR actually cools combustion chamber temp, and will aid in preventing pre-ignition.

Also, if you are talking about the PCV system, please don't, there are emissions devices for a reason.

Further more, whatever you have read is wrong. More 'fuel', including oil, lowers combustion temp, more air(higher level of fuel oxidation) is what increases temp. So, with all due respect, before you drastically increase your vehicle's level of pollution, to avoid proper maintenance, and decrease the efficiency(power output and fuel economy very much included) please at least do some research as to what would actually be accomplished, not just if someone else has done it.

No... the intention was to eliminate oil vapour from entering the intake stream... keep the TB clean and avoid any other issues.


To Roverguy7's comment about doing research, I have done some but will get further confirmation before proceeding. Thanx....

Yeah oil vapor comes from the PCV. You shouldn't get much oil in the EGR or you have bigger issues. Carbon and soot come from the EGR. Does the EGR inject exhaust pre-throttle or post-throttle?

Sorry for the confusion, I am speaking of the PCV.... I get the two confused by times.:dunno:

An oil catch can would be the best solution, but highly doubt anyone has done it on an LR3. It would still vent to the intake, but the oil vapor would be pulled out by the catch can. You would still need the suction of the intake for the PCV to work. You would also have to deal with periodically emptying it as well, unless you get one that drains back to the sump.
