Engine Control Unit replacement

Hello-
I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for sourcing a replacement ECU for a 2007 LR3?
Asking for a friend -
hahaha

I’ve only ever once diagnosed and solved an issue on any Rover with a new PCM(power train control module). The PCM had codes for overheat which was caused by the PCM cooling fan dying.

most shops will blame the PCM when they can’t figure out the issue.

so, a PCM is VIN specific.

only option is to buy new from the dealer or find a competent locksmith who can code a used module to your vehicle. In so cal we have a guy that charges $800 for that service.

a new dealer module will need coding as well.

I may have mis-spoke/typed it is the ECM - stemming from possible water intrusion.

remove it and inspect for water damage. You can pry the tabs open and get eyes on the circuitry.

The folks at GAP will help with upgrading and reprogramming ECUs with their IID tool. I think it's an extra $30 per flash. Email them with details, pay, and they will send you a custom update and instructions. I've done this to reprogram used modules that I bought on eBay that were originally coded to a different VIN. Can confirm it works great and much cheaper.

Really?
That is fascinating- I appreciate the information. I will look into it!

GAP has told me they can’t do a PCM, have they been able to do one for you? What modules did they do?

Got a vehicle diagnosed with bad PCM(2006 Range Rover full size) AJV8 module by the dealer.

GAP confirmed they can only code a new virgin one, not a used one.
