Default Factual thoughts on LR3 purchase

I am in the market for a LR3 HSE, more then likely an 08. I have been looking for a certified pre owned but have noted that the certified are markedly higher in price. Are there enough known issues that need fixed to justify the price hike?

Please include what issues I should be looking at prior to purchase

The dealer inspects the vehicle fully, everything including all the gadgets are checked to make sure they work. You get rental coverage and warrantee after the vehicle is up. 12k 12 month after the warrantee is up if you want more you can purchase more at the time of sale or before 11 months and 11k. Our standards for brakes and tires are much more higher then a regular dealer. Listen to the stories of guys who went to GM dealers and couldn't figure out how they got such a lemon when the dealer they bought it from couldn't even tell them how to set the time on the radio. Listen this goes for all makes and models. Buy a model from the OEM local dealer and your experience will be alot less painful. The will go the distance for you because you are their client until the end of time. Not till after the point of sale. Trust me you wont even get a rental or anything else from the other dealer if you do it. Plus as a technician I know what goes wrong on these vehicles. I can spot that kind of stuff before it happens.

One more thing I forgot to mention, Very few cars got sold after 2007 until now. This goes for pretty much all SUVs. The SUV market had taken a big hit on sales so the number sold is lower which means that the number coming off of lease is smaller which puts the prices on resale very high. Sorry its a number thing. 05s and 06s are cheaper as more were sold.

i got an 08 from the dealership . . . 6K and was the "loaner" for people who brought in thier vehicles - knocked a BUNCH of cost, but still considered new.
I have yet to have ANY issues others are mentioning . . . seems as if the later models are worth it . . . get extended warranty to 100K . . . you will NOT be sorry

KICKS ***!!!!!

I purchased a 2007 LR3 from a LR Dealership. I wanted a 2008, but there was none to be found in Houston per the reason mentioned above. It was not pre-cert, but I did buy the extended warranty 3yr/36k for $2800 which covers as much if not more than a pre-cert.

As "Rovin4life" states, go with the OEM, it will be less painful if anything should happen.
