Fluctuating Idle

The idle on my '05 LR3 constantly fluctuates at regular intervals between about 500 and 1000 RPM. This ony occurs when in park. When in drive and stopped with the brakes on it maintains constant normal idle range of about 800 RPM.
This fluctuation has caused me to stall out on several occasions when backing out of a parking spot or when maneuvering forward and back to make a multi point turn.

Any suggestions on the probable cause before I bring it in for diagnosis. I don't have a great relationship with my local dealer so I like to have as much information as I can going in.

Thanks,
Jason

clean the throttle plate,

Simple as that?
No new sensors or injector cleaning or anything required?
Also, is this something I can let my regular mechanic handle or should the dealer do it?

Injector cleaning is highly recommended on those models due to lean codes from clogged injectors. But if you want to get the service done its easiest at the dealer and ask them they clean the carbon out of the thottlebody. Its apart of the service but make sure its mentioned so they do it. Plus the dealer may want to update any modules that currently need it.

Ok thanks for the additional info and feedback. I'll take your advise and make an appointment with the dealer.

No, I have not had a chance to bring it in for service yet.

If you aren't using Premium fuel, you will be more prone to this happening as well.

My throttle plate was clean, what was bad was the sensor inside throttle body. unfortunately , one cannot buy it separately. so I had to replace entire throttle body, which runs around $ 300.00.Once I did that , had no problem since, and i only use premium fuel, although i purchased my LR3 used, so no knowledge about previous practices.
