glove box door latch failure
The latch on my upper glove box door is not functioning. The door doesn't seem to have any screws or plugs. Does anyone know how it is disassembled. I am sure that it is an easy fix if I can get it apart. Thanks Phil

It's not an easy removal. The box needs a special removal tool to compress the pins. Not only that, but they're still hard to access even if you devised a contraption to compress it. (5 ml internal diameter copper tube).
Save yourself time. Cut the plastic pins out. Replace with something less moronic. I removed mine a few weeks back to replace blower motor. Have some pics somewhere. |
thanks for the prompt reply, I will take a look tomorrow and see if I can figure out the removal and disassembly. Phil

Thanks for the references to the work manual, very helpful. So it looks like the upper glove box door is not designed to be disassembled. I will dig around some today and see if there is a way to take it apart. I may need to resort to a couple of pieces of velcro...........

I found an upper glove compartment cover assembly from a salvage yard and just switched out the old one. I'm not a certified auto anything, but I was able to figure out the pins and dash insert removal. I easily removed center console fascia and passenger side fascia. Part was 85.00; I used "off the shelf" tools and labor was all me.
It took about an hour for me to figure out the diagrams and which tools to use. Then it took only 20 minutes to finish up after cover's base pins were secured. |
is it possible to remove the upper glove box to access behind it?
|
It's possible and technically speaking, very easy. However, realistically, it's one of the most difficult things I've done on the LR3. My upper glove box was stuck in there so good that I pulled and pried with all my might for at least an hour before the damn thing came out. It was ridiculous. Have a look here for instructions though.

ok so what you just pry and pull hard and it pops out? well that was easy now to figure how the upper das removes
|
Yes. I can't remember if there are any screws, but there are 4 or 6 clips that hold on with a death grip and you need to pry/pull the inner glove box part straight towards the back of the car.
