How much above market?
How much above market would you all be willing to pay for a very clean, well maintained (w/records), LR3 from a reputable used car dealer specializing in land rovers? I'm sure there is some value in getting a rover that isn't going to have major problems in the first couple years of ownership.

It depends a lot where you are and what the market is like. Up here near Boston, there's a dealer who specializes in Land Rovers and all he picks up are clean and all get fully inspected. His LR3's usually are listed at around $20k. That's about normal for a LR3 in that condition with all records up here. You can find rougher examples with no records for closer to $10k.

10% maybe
I can't see much of a premium for a good visual condition 3 with all records vs just a good looking 3. The odds are the 3 with the records would sell quicker however.
There is not alot of incentive to keep any vehicle in good repair other than owner pride. 3's on a dealer lot list at more than on a sand lot and all were purchased at the Ford lease auction so who knows. |

Its funny I got a post card last week from the land rover dealer offering me $3370 for my lr3 trade in on a new rover , I'm sure I can't go to their lot and buy an lr3 for that price

Who is the specialist LR dealer? Do they do service work too or just sales?
Dealer East Bridgewater MA New & Used Cars near Boston - Marquis Motorcars Prices have dropped since I last checked. Now they're around $15k for the most part. |

I bought a 2006 a little over a month ago. It has just under 100k miles.
The plan was to fix up for my cousin, but she has decided on another route. I am going to list the vehicle for 15k. It's a Tonga green SE with Alpaca interior, cold weather package, and HID lights. Brakes were done by PO. Repairs and preventative maintenance done: - New battery - New Radiator - New T stat housing - New water pump - 4 new cooling hoses(major ones) - Brass t - New updated diff breather - New upper and Lower control arms - New inner and outer tie rods - New Arnott front air struts - New Eurospare rear air struts - New terrain response control panel - New engine PCM(was getting comm faults) - New used driver seat(old one had a tear) - Removed all seats and vacuumed carpet - Royal Purple in Diffs and t case - BG oil with KN filter - Trans service with BMW metal pan and Redline D4 Still need to change out a worn passenger front half shaft CV, a complete detail(buff paint, shampoo carpet, condition leather), and replace all exterior logos with gloss black logos. I believe 15k is the top of the market where I am at, but I am confident I will get it as NOBODY does all the work I did then sells their vehicle. |
Just listed min in the for sale section here
very clean 06 with lots of upgrades asking 8500 for a fast sale |

I think they do both. I would take mine there but it's a bit far of a drive for me.

As to the question of how much to pay for a vehicle, one with verifiable records is worth a premium, especially the older it gets. I started out looking for a Land Cruiser or LX470. Like the LR3's, the good ones are gone by the time you call. The ones sitting around on lots are still there for a reason. Dealing w/ a 10yr old vehicle with 100k (+/-) miles that you don't the history of, you can expect to at least baseline the fluids. Oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, coolant flush, etc. Every vehicle also has it's known problem areas. What is all that going to cost you? Add that as the "premium" to pay for one that has service records of everything being done and I would say you're even, if not a tad ahead. |
