Lower & Upper Control Arms

Hi Everyone

I recently had the lower and upper control arms replaced. There was a slight knock when driving up a bump so took it in and they said it was LCA. Then when they got into it more said UCA also. Plus they said the stabilizer link and left and right tie rods (inner and outer) also need replacing. It seems it just kept adding up each time they called me saying they found this is now needing to be replaced.

Anyway, when they were quoting me prices etc., I asked more than once if the parts are genuine Land Rover parts and they said yes.

So the other day I crawled under and found the following:
  • LCAs were Karlyn, which they charged me $262 each for (I can find them online in multiple places for $80-100 ea)
  • UCAs were Meyle, which they charged me $228 each for (I can find these for between $85 - 120 ea).

I can't find any markings on the sway bar or tie rods but I'm now thinking these are not genuine either.

What do you do in this situation? I will speak to them but I wanted to see what people thought prior.

They charged $1,273 in labor to fit all of this plus a wheel alignment (which while the vehicle runs straight, the steering wheel is crooked). I'm not sure if this is good or not re labor charge but I'm more concerned about the parts they used.

Cheers

Our shop rate is $120 an hour.

The book time for both upper and lower arms is roughly 7 hours. That would be $840

Dealer charges $185 an hour, That would be $1,295.

We are in Southern California, one of the most expensive areas for Repair shops.

The upper control arm cost is ridiculous for Genuine Land Rover parts even. Sorry, I would say they hosed you. Don't go back, and also call them and let them know your findings and that you are going to proceed with giving them bad reviews on yelp, social media, and google.

I was going to say, when it comes to uppers the genuine are very affordable. Moog even cost more than genuine! The took advantage of you, clearly. :/
