LR3 instrument cluster info

So from all indications, my 2009 LR3 HSE has a bad instrument cluster. Abran on this board kindly assisted me in pursuing getting a used cluster from another LR3, but apparently the instrument cluster from an 05 through 07 will not work in the 08s and 09s, and there was no 08 or 09 that I could find anywhere.

If your cluster is bad and you DO want to get another used one, remember these facts:

1. You cannot dial back the mileage on the odometer of a used one. So if your LR3 has 120,000 miles and the "new to you" used cluster has 130,000 miles on it, guess what, you just put 10,000 miles on your truck.

2. You will need to buy a GAP II device to program the "new to you" cluster.

3. Because you are installing a used cluster, it might bug out just like the one you had.

In my case, I had two options since no 08-09 used units were available: 1) Buy a new cluster for $1200, or 2) Get mine fixed. I chose to get mine fixed from a company called ClusterFix.net. For $349, they will fix your cluster and actually improve it to prevent further problems. They have a 2 to 4 business day turnaround. With shipping times, etc., you are down for 2 weeks unless you're really lucky.

Hope this helps some poor soul.

This is going to be a three week process for me. Fed Ex ground is a full one-week this time of year each way, plus 2-4 business days to get the thing fixed.

We've had this LR3 for two months. and my daughter has been able to drive it about 2 weeks of that.

What a mistake.

....isn't this your 2nd LR3? You've had some really bad luck, my friend!

Yes, the insurance company totaled the first one after a minor collision after about 8 month of ownership. That unit would inexplicably die when turning every now and then and you would have to wait 5-10 minutes to restart it and resume your travels. Of course no mechanic could even approach properly diagnosing it. I bet I cataloged a dozen theories.

Foolishly, I decided to get her her another one, tempting the car gods, and they are now getting their licks in. Thank goodness she can drive my landcruiser to school. 🤪

LR3s are interesting...I suppose it's true of any pre-owned vehicle but when I hunted down a 2nd LR3 I must have driven over a dozen different examples until the 2006 I got last March popped up. Some leaked, some knocked, some had EAS issues. Most of them in the price range I shopped had lived hard lives. I think it took me a year to find a good one.

This is a one-owner example with good records and only 103,000 miles.

well, the cluster has been repaired and it looks like I might have it Monday and a re-install Tuesday. Maybe by some dumb luck this was the issue and my daughter can finally drive her car for a week or so.

Have faith, it will make it two weeks

So the cluster arrived this morning. Hopefully the mechanic can plug it in on Monday am, and hopefully that was the issue.

The ClusterFix folk seem like real pros. They received this on Tuesday and I have it back in my possession Saturday, so that’s a quick turnaround.

Here is the receipt:
