I had this same issue, which was resolved by adding a shield to my hvac fresh air intake below the window cowl.

Re the dash speedo cluster, there is one big connecter feeding into the rear of the cluster. The cable is a bit too short from the factory and hence tends to not fully insert or sort of pulls out and hence parts of the display do not display. Also within the cluster, there is a backup chip that has the vehicle serial number imprinted in the software. What I am saying is that usually one cannot just swap in a junkyard cluster due to VIN mismatch. It requires some sort of computer program to mate differeing clusters.
You can do the swap using a Gap-if you don't care about the mileage all you need to do (IIRC) is back up your old cluster, replace the cluster and write the saved info into the new cluster. If you do care about the mileage, Gap will do a "express " for you, keep in mind it can't roll back any miles, only move them ahead. Ther you turn on the ignition, not startting the vehicle, leave it on for one minute, turn it off for one minute, then back on for a minute, do this three times and it should start on the 4th cycle. I did this with my LR3 and it worked for me.
