Nav/bluetooth/Sirius
 

I bought a 2007 HSE a month ago. I was pleased to get this one because it had Nav/bluetooth phone/Sirius. These are all features that I wanted, and used frequently in my last car.

I took a roadtrip into the mountins to find out that I need to update the NAV, but it is only upgradable to 2012 and it will never get newer than that.

The blue tooth works well for answering the phone, it has a bunch of steps to take for voice activated calls, I may be able to work around that.

Today I transferred the sirius account only to find that the station that I use will not work on the rover. many other stations work, but the radio cannot recognize a bunch of the premium stations.

so I am thinking, maybe I should not have bought and HSE... because now I am thinking of trying to find a modern unit that has NAV/blue tooth & siirus.

Is it crazy to remove the stock head Nav unit? will that kill the phone buttons on the steering wheel? has anyone else done this?

Most modern head units show you attach a component where can jerk your steering wheel controls.

Can be done, and will work, but it is not as simple as just tossing a head unit in, as it uses a fiber optic bus. The whole system, minus speakers would need to be replaced, so amp too.

A good audio shop should be able to do this without issue.

If you wanted to keep the nav system(which is a good idea, as it provides 4x4 info) the top part of the current radio head unit(minus cd changer and faceplate) can be removed, and the fiber jumped to only go from head unit to nav screen, to allow the nav system to still fully function.

2121 or 0000 pairing.

Is the pairing code for your Bluetooth 2121 or 0000?

I ask as if it is 0000, you should only have to pair your phone once and for the most part, also with the 2121 system. Both systems are Land Rover products; the 0000 was installed at the factory; the 2121 by the dealer. (NOTE AS in posts BELOW, it is the reverse.)

You are right.

0000 is the dealer installed; 2121 is factory.

My 3 came with the dealer installed 0000 pairing setup; about two months ago, I redid the Bluetooth and now have the 2121 pairing using the D4 optical module.

The D4 software works well with my newer BlackBerry 9900; the 0000 was OK with my older BB 9630 but was not so reliable with the 9900. I now have a signal strength readout on the radio display as well as caller ID and other readouts not there before.

I have only had to do the pairing once, the first time, when I set the system up and since then, have kind of forgotten about the pairing codes - which is good.

Is there a way to upgrade the sirius to a newer receiver and still use the stock controls?
