New owner of LR3 looking for tips
 

Just bought a 2005 LR3 with 120k on the clock. Getting the maintenance records from the dealer today but was looking for advice on what might be some things to update or maintain?

I'm in the same boat.

Change all of the fluids if they haven't been. check for the updated breather for the front diff. Look for a leak coming from the electrical connector on the transmission.

Look at, but don't touch the coolant bleeder near the front of the engine, up top. Don't look at it too hard. If it's still there and looks crusty/original, replace the hose or put a T or something in the place of the bleeder. Here is a cool upgrade: Upgrade for silly plastic T fitting in hose for Land Rover LR3 A little pricey though. I'd be tempted to find something at the hardware store for cheaper.

Check lower controls arms, tie rod ends, sway bar bushings, etc.

Replace the suspension compressor dryer if the compressor is original and it's never been replaced.

Check brakes and tires, they like to eat both pretty regularly.

Replace the cabin filter in the A/C unit. When I got mine scary nasty stuff came out of it. :)

Check wheel bearings for play.


I'm probably forgetting a bunch of stuff, so other will come along and fill in the blanks.

Maintenance history
 

I have owned my LR3 for 2 years, I bought it at 110 000 miles.

Since then I replaced the front lower control arms + inner and outer tie rods by myself ($700).
After performing the 4 wheel alignment ($200) the dealer advised me to replace the compressor + relay + updated software ($1014).
At 112500 miles I asked the dealer to perform the 105 000 miles service maintenance (not done before) ($693) and I replaced the suspension switch too ($298).
In between I replaced the brake switch and put in a new battery before last winter ($250).
At 122330 miles the dealer replaced the transfer case oil ($115), the brake fluid ($140), the right front wheel bearing ($595) + right tie rod assembly ($254)

The prices I am giving include parts and labor at the dealership. I try to do the job myself when I can.

The LR3 runs like new and I try to do preventative maintenance as much as I can.

Approximately, the cost for maintenance has been around $0.30 / mile.

I like to go to the dealer because I get a free loaner for 24 h, which I don't get at the local independent shop.

Even with the high cost of maintenance the LR3 is a awesome vehicle on and off road!!!
