Default LR3 vs. RR

Hey everybody! First post! I am currently looking into purchasing an 05 LR3 or a 03/04 Range Rover. Is gas mileage between these vastly different? How about reliability?

Thanks
Brian

When looking at Land Rover products you should not be worried about fuel economy and there is not much difference between the 2. For the most part they compare to any large American made SUV for fuel economy, however if you really want to get off the beat and path you can do much more in a Rover (either one).

For the other, which is better, the LR3 vs the Range Rover. For the year 05 is the first production year of the LR3, and a totally new platform from the previous Discovery Series 2. If there is factory warranty left that is good, if not get an extended warranty. As for Range Rover, it really must be a styling choice and your choice, the Range Rover has been consistant over the years in this time period, a few little things from time to time can go wrong. I have 2 Discoverys, and a RR Classic, I like the styling of the LR3 and the 7 seatingif it has it this a nice feature if you need it. It would be nice if either were one owner trades and not lease returns. Maintenance is very important for Land Rovers, and sometime lease returns are not cared for as well. Be very strict in performing the required maintenance on either and if they are certified either one would be good. Best of Luck on your purchase.

Hey thanks for replying. Yea I had a 2003 Black/Black Discovery which I loved! Very few problems at all. At the time the gas mileage was always a constant worry for me, but I think that when you are looking for an SUV with significant space and off road ability, you must sacrifice some money in the tank!
I have heard some reservations about the 05 LR3's reliability and I love the RR styling. Maybe an 06 LR3?

Well I guess the choice is made.....kinda

Thanks
Brian

LR3 and RR's are practically the same under the sheet metal. The RR's have some extra toys and creature comforts. Main difference in your choice is going to be that the 05 LR3 has the terrain response. RR's did not get it until 06 if I remember right. And of course the price difference between the two.

It really is just down to personal preferance. Rang Rover styling is better in my opinion, as well as its beautiful interior, vs LR3's more utilitarian look inside and out. The engine and drivetrain are vastly different depending on model year. The Range Rover BMW version has it's own X5 (I think...) 4.4 V8 while the new ones hav ethe AJV8 from Jaguar. The gearbox is a 5-speed in the BMW, a ZF 6-speed in the Ford. I perfer the Range Rover's styling, but as a whole, I think the LR3 is better.

A friend of mine is looking at getting 05 LR3 wit 32k miles for 25K, or a 04 RR HSE with 65K miles for the same price. Any advice from previous owners as to which would be a better deal. Also what are the differences as to handling and speed between the 2. THANKS

He, my friend is looking at getting a 2006 LR3, with 21,000 miles on it. He was wondering if there is any things he should know about the car, or if it is worth the buy? If there is anything he should know, he would really appreciate it. THANKS

For me, it was the 7 seats that sealed the deal - bought a 2006 LR3 HSE - but I agree with a couple of the posts here, really a matter of prefernce in regards to styling... people say that the LR3 is more utilitarian looking, but I actually like the styling of my car better than the RR's... enjoy it, whichever one you pick!
