Rear Hatch Strut Mount
 

I just purchased a 2006 LR3 and noticed that it has the rear hatch strut mount issue (the captive nut is missing). I have been reading up on it here, it appears to be a difficult repair. I have a couple of questions.

It looks like someone started the repair on my LR3 (see picture). How can I tell if my mounting plate is missing? Has anyone tried to place a mounting plate on the outside of the D-pillar? Has anyone tried using metal wall anchors intended for home use (https://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/67997841)?

There are a lot of forces happening on that spot - I don't think there are any "easy" repairs.

Or maybe someone with a welder could "reattach" then touch up the paint
