Rear Wheel noise loud! broken rotor screw..
Had the LR3 parked for a week.
When I took it for a spin today, on the highway I noticed a loud noise from the rear driver side wheel. I thought it was the caliper hanging up and dragging the pad. I took a look inside the wheel (without removing) and immediately noticed the rotor retaining screw was broken off. My assumption is the broken screw is trapped perhaps between the rotor and dust shield thus causing the noise. Question is, is the retaining screw necessary? Can I ride with out it. I always thought the only purpose they served was to make plant assembly and tire rotations easier as rotor is actually held in by the force of the wheel lugs. I'd hate to spend hours trying to get the broken screw out of the axle flange if it really not necessary. Thoughts? TIA |
Are you talking about the trailing arm bolt? How about a picture! I would say that I would not drive it until you are sure either way.

More than likely the park brake shoes self destructed and jammed up in the brake drum.
You should check both sides and repair as necessary. |
