Spare Tire Wench Stuck

Has anyone had any issues with their spare tire winch getting stuck and not releasing the cable down? I took it off to look at it but it seems like it is jammed possibly. If anyone has had anything work let me know.

Thanks.

landrover lr3 spare tire not releasing

I'm having the same issue as well i didn't have the problem the first time i had to use the spare but the second time the wench just won't release. not sure of the issue but looks like I may need to take it to the dealer which I'm really not liking

All too common. It seems like the issue is using the winch with no load on it. If you are changing a flat, put the flat on the winch - instead of trying to winch it back up empty. Heck I even remember seeing a G4 edition up on those vertical ramp things with the spare tire off - and they just tucked the winch line up above the frame rail instead of winching it in.... so even they know not to do it........

You'll need a new one. Here's one on ebay: LAND ROVER SPARE TIRE WHEEL WINCH RANGE SPORT LR3 LR4 - eBay (item 160534891047 end time Apr-19-11 15:23:16 PDT)

I've gone through two of them. Two general causes...raising without a load on it and overwinding it up, causing the gears to break. It isn't made for heavy use, that is for sure. It does help to lower yearly, then apply some silicone or something to the cable as it is wound up to prevent the cable from corroding together.

Yes it happened to me on my LR4 and the reason was the tire shop uses air Wrench to unload the Spare Tire (it turn too fast).
*** DO NOT use air Wrench to lower or lift the spare tire lift winch, use the manual tools ***
It is not warranty after the first 1000 km

its not warrantee whomever damages it. but yes overwinding without the spare tire kills them quick. if you have to leave it down and wrap it around a few things but dont wind it all the way up.
