TPMS error - Which OBD scanner device works?
I have just acquired a low mileage 2008 Land Rover LR3 which I plan to use for overlanding/backcountry discovery routes, after some restrained modifications.
The TPMS warning light has been on since I bought the car and the message center displays "Tire Pressure System Malfunction'. The car had 4 new tires fitted when I bought it and I suspect that when the wheels were remounted they were simply replaced with no thought to their previous locations so the TPMS system is now 'confused' because the sensors are in different locations, and I’m hoping that the TPMS simply has to relearn the position of the devices.
I plan to buy an OBD scanner device so obviously would like one that can manage the TPMS. I have done some research on the many OBD devices out there including the Foxwell NT510 Elite Professional Automotive OBD2 Scanner for Land Rover and Jaguar, and the iCarsoft LR V3.0 for Land Rover/Jaguar. Both manufacturers claim their devices can do everything (including TPMS) and yet when I read the reviews there are some critical comments from professionals stating these devices are little more than fault scanners, with very little ability beyond that, and have read elsewhere that it is really only Land Rover’s own “Testbook” OBD device that works.
Does anyone have any experience/knowledge with these OBD tools that you wouldn’t mind sharing? Is it really only Land Rover’s own Testbook that can manage this, and if so is it possible to get one without having to mortgage my house first?
Thanks!

I have the GAP tool, it has the ability to disable the system if you can't get it working right. I has a lot of other great features for doing your own diag and upgrading. I used it the other night to update the tire size so the speedo stays correct even though I put 32" tires on it. It can also data log to help diag electrical issues. I got mine from Lucky8, they had it on the shelf ready to ship and I got it in a few days, from GAP Diagnostics directly they were a few weeks out to be able to ship it at the time I needed one.

The system will relearn the positions of the sensors after some miles. This happens, for example, when swapping the spare. The system will relearn by design. But your fault is likely not because of that. Ideally you get the Rover specific codes read to determine the issue, but the TPMS modules themselves are well known to fail. Module is located up in the headliner behind the sunroof. A generic scanner may not work. GAP IID Tool is always the best to get, but its designed just for Rovers so you can't use it on other vehicles. But you can do some very specific Rover reprograming, etc.
