Wire connection in vehicle to repair non-working key FOB
 

I am looking for help and clarification on the supposedly common bad wiring connection in the LR3 which causes the key FOB not to work. I have a 2006.

My key FOB worked intermittently, then stopped. I replaced my key FOB battery and it worked a couple of times, but now dead. I have read that a bad wiring connection in the passenger (US model) side door sill is often the culprit.

After struggling to access the wiring loom on the floor of the passenger side door sill I can't find the culprit connection. I have read it is a 3 green and white wire connection (one wire going in and two going out). I have found a connection that has 2 green and white wires going in and 2 green and white wires going out that appears to be in the location many have mentioned (about 4-6" forward of the front passenger seat). Others have mentioned the splice is closer to the B pillar.

Is the 4 wire splice I found the correct one? If not, any tips on locating the 3 wire connection?

This is a good link to a nine page thread; page five has some good pictures of the actual conductors.

The only question in my mind is what side of the vehicle the wires are located on. I think with our North American LHD 3s that the wiring bundle on the passenger side right is where you look.

Even if you are in the exact correct place, the wires are really hard to find as there are so many other wires within the bundle.

Don't get discouraged; once you find the correct wires, the fix is easy.

Yes, it is difficult sorting through all the wires.


I had looked at the first link you provided, which shows the connection on the US passenger side.


On the second link you provided the pictures look like the connection is on the US driver's side. Looking at the car seat in the pictures it shows the seat of the left side seat.


I have the right side wire bundle exposed now and will look through that again and if I can't find anything I will move too the left side.


I am beginning to think it is on the left side since the FOB stopped working when my left side had some water infiltration from the common sunroof drainage problems.

It is so Land Rover that one does not know which side to look.

Good luck, you will need some along with a lot of patience.

The good news is the fix is easy once you find the wires.

Tell me about it. Went through that trying to identify which side was "Bank 1" which is usually the driver's side, except in a Land Rover, where it is the right side because that's the driver's side in the UK. So, backwards if you have a LHD.

I would check both sides just to be sure, as much of a pain as it is.

I never found the wire, but discovered I had a bad remote. I bought a device to detect if the FOB was transmitting - nothing. I got a new key FOB and all good.
