2016 LR4 Catastrophic engine failure
Hello, PLEASE HELP! I bought a used 2016 LR4 and have had it for about two years, and I was planning on driving it well into the future. The engine has had a catastrophic failure, and I am just wanting to get advice on whether or not I should consider replacing it with a used engine, new, or try to sell as is. I was told by my mechanic that a used engine would be approximately around 15K, and a new engine around 20k. Still owe approximately 25k on car. Please help me with best advice on what to do?? Thank you!

Hi, I appreciate the few responses. And no I’m not a troll. I’m just dealing with more in my life then I can keep up with, including having my new car blow an engine! As you can imagine it was extremely devastating! And I’ve had to focus on trying to find another car while I try to figure out what to do with the LR4 that I absolutely love! if anyone has advice on selling the car as is I would be so appreciative! Thank you!

I’m still unclear as to what happened to your engine and why the mechanic says is not repairable. I’ve heard some mechanics are saying that blown head gaskets = new engine, but I don’t believe that should be true.
If you really do need to scrap the engine, you might be able to get a used engine out of a wreck (not refurbished) and have someone go over it for far less than $20K. Those prices you’ve been quoted sound pretty insane.

LR4 - Engine Fail at 40k
I just saw this thread and have had same problem but at 40k miles the car completely shut down - no warning and all maintenance up to date.
We bought it used 2 years ago. Been told it’s 25k plus to put new engine in - there’s already still $20k finance debt on it. I don’t want any to spend anything on a 40k mile car that this happened to and want LR to stand by their vehicle - surely they should expect more than 40k miles from them…
anyone have any advice? Even if it’s contact details for lawyers to handle it for me.
