Ham Radio transceiver install in LR4
I just installed an ICOM IC-7000 and HiQ screwdriver antenna in a 2010 LR4.
If interested go to my website for pictures: www.marcoisland.org/n1dl_mobile.htm If you have any questions feel free to contact me. |
Cool! How's it work? I'm having some difficulty finding a good mount. I picked up a minimally functional Cobra (19DX IV) and the little Will antenna, but I'm struggling to come up with a good spot to mount it. Any ideas?

installation
I am not familiar with you antenna. If its long then consider the tow mount like I have in the picture. If its a short one you can get a small mount that screws onto the top tail gate (I use one for VHF/UHF)
Does your radio have a removable control head? If yes consider a mount that uses the drink well. Karl |
install 7000
hi, I got a 2015 LR4 and the same radio. can you tell me how you installed the radio? did you connect the radio directly to the battery? did you did you use a relay or switch? I'm trying to find the ignition signal wire so the radio won't drain out the battery. Do you know which wire it might be?

Ham Radio in LR4
I installed the IC7000 main unit in the trunk behind the plastic side panel door in a vertical position and the control head on a "drink holder base"in the central front drink well. I used the existing DC outlet in the trunk and did not install wiring from the battery. It worked just fine. I used some ferrite cores around the DC cable near the transceiver.
Have fun and drive carefully. |
