Heads-up coolant Temp or CHT - real measurements - 25K$ loss
Trying to help a friend prevent another $25,000 overheat from a cracked thermostat housing and/or crossover pipe on her 2015 L319 with AJ126 supercharged v6.
By the time the coolant is gone, the coolant temp sensor has nothing to read and there is no cylinder head temp. Options include heads-up odb display of coolant temp, a rasberry pii with audible alarm when over n temp, or even a wireless oven sensor to the dash Any suggestions?

For similar reasons, after poking around, I just ordered one of these: https://bankspower.com/products/bank...ge-datamonster. It helpfully has alerts which Scanguage and other stuff doesn't. I can report back when I get it!

I’m not sure a better temp gauge helps. When a pipe bursts and the coolant is gone, the temp at the heads shoots up so fast you don’t really have time to do anything to save it. You might catch a slow leak that depressurizes the system without running it dry, but that’s not the engine killer situation. I think the only thing to do is replace those plastic crossovers every 50-60k miles.

thank you. Code has already been written (I would change the 90d to 105 )

I was given the assignment to drive the car to clear the ODB readiness codes but I don't feel like focusing on the mostly useless gauge which is concealed upon using other functions.

However a better solution may be a coolant pressure gauge alarm, as is very common with outboard motors. This would give a few more seconds warning on the catostrophic failure of the cheaply made plastic laminated crossover pipes.
I know there is a replacement for that high risk weakness but the mechanic doing the replacement of the motor already installed the supercharger over the faulty design pipes.
