LR4 - 2011 - Fuel Smell
Hello,
I have a LR4 5.0 HSE 2011.
I recently started to smell fuel outside the vehicle, both when its running and when its parked up.
Unable to find any fuel marks underneath the vehicle or under the bonnet.
The fuel smell is more prominent near the rear of the car.
The fuel cap seems fine, but i did notice that it doesnt hiss when i unscrew it. Also, unsure whether it should hiss, as this was the first time i ever unscrewed it personally. My buddies identical LR4 does a hiss sound when he unscrews his.
The car seems to be using the correct amount of fuel.
Any ideas on anything i can check before i take it to the garage, or can anyone share any similar experiences and what the fault was etc.
Thanks
G

I had that problem with my LR3. Low pressure fuel pump cover on the gas tank gasket had split. Plenty of raw fuel on the top of the tank. Happy that it didn’t light on fire!
Its a bit of work to drop the tank, but not difficult. Price for the part isn’t terribly high. Not sure if it’s the gasket or a cracked cover.
I would try to drain or run the tank dry and drop it.
Passenger side near rear tire is where the smell will be strongest for North American cars anyway. May be drivers side if you’re in U.K.
