LR4 buying advice

Hello Forum,

Looking for basic advice on the purchase of an LR4.. I have been on the thread alot, and am wondering if there are some basic things to look for when inspecting a 2010-2011 with 50k ish miles on it. We are getting to the point where alot of the first year models are coming off warranty and are now available for sale fairly regularly..

How do the engines and transmissions compare to those of the LR3 in terms of longevity? Any known catastrophes in waiting ALA the DII headgaskets or drive train fail?

Thanks and happy trails!

Frank

Nothing like the D2 head gaskets to worry about.

Plan on less DIY service and more time at the dealer. Go ahead and put a new battery in, these and the LR3 have so much electronics a five year old "Neva Start" is going to cause all sorts of gremlins.

Would advise fluids changed more often than the dealer minimum, as an example the front differential is about a $2200 repair. Holds less than 1 quart of fluid. Don't try to stretch it 10 years or 150,000 miles.....

Thanks Savannah..

I think the LR4 are so nice.. Indi shops should be up to speed on how to service these as well, correct?

As a former LR3 and now LR4 owner there are some things improved and some I am wary of. Things like bushings, links etc seem to be improved as my 4 is much more "solid" than the 3. However I think the direct injection engine on the 4 is going to be more fussy than the 4.4 in the 3.

I'm trading in my 2007 LR3 after the winter, after $5,000 in repairs at 116K kms. I had front differential, wheel hubs / bearings & tie rods go every 40K kms. I also, replaced the rear struts (though that was rather painless). I learned not to go to my local dealer. I got to know Amazon, Lucky 8, and British Atlantic and a few good mechanics through the process.

I want to believe the LR4 is better. Do I pickup a 2013, or wait to see if the 2014 are radically different?
