New owner / New issues

New 2 day owner of 2015 LR4 HSE with 108314 miles. I'm just out of a year's long relationship with my 03 HUMMER H2 so I'm well aware of "older big heavy 4x4 vehicle' issues.

So, on the LR4 I had the ECO light on when purchased and button produced an error msg that it wasn't available. Read probable secondary battery issue so have one on order. HVAC blower has very light squealing when running on low speed but not when turned up on higher speeds, so have new blower & filter on order.

Didn't have CHK ENG light but did have two pending codes - P2178 & P2180, so will be doing a MAF and TB cleaning as well as replacing air filter and adding a can of STP fuel system cleaner.

Last night on way to restaurant ECO light disappeared (2nd battery regained a full charge perhaps?) but was soon replaced with CHK ENG light. After dinner it was really hard to restart vehicle and very rough idle. Ran ok on way home but light remained. Checked codes this AM and still have same 2 initial codes with addition of P2188 & P2190. Hoping the intended Air filter/MAF/TB & Fuel system cleanings will clear the issues.

Have a couple questions tho - 1. where would the fuel filter be and is it a DIY at home change?; 2. I read on another post there is desiccant in the air ride pump system, so where is that located and can it be changed as a DIY in the garage? 3. Any links to pdf files for wiring, expanded body/drivetraing parts locations, etc?

Will also be (or having done) a change of all fluids. And hoping that's about all for a while! 😁

Thanks for the add and TIA for any/all help.

Welcome!
1. Fuel filters are IN the fuel tank. Its a job.
2. Correct, the desiccant container is a part of the fuel pump.
3. Send me a PM.

Cheers!

Thank you.

Well, pulled the Air filter covers and MAF sensors. Filters are apparently new (couldn't be cleaner. Was spraying the MAS with cleaner and noticed the o-ring on the right unit was on the side where the flex pipe to the TB goes. That puzzled me as I was sure I had seen it mentioned that it was supposed to be where it connects to the Air box. Decided to check the left unit and low and behold - NO O-ring to be found. No, it didn't drop & get lost. Just wasn't there. So, I have to get one of those before reassembly. Thinking it may have been messed up by whomever replaced the Air filters last. More learning....

Hoping I can find one locally.

Mine doesn't have O-rings... can you pot up a pic? If the ECO battery's fully charged you'll have a green ECO illuminated in the cluster. These batteries do not last long, I went through 4 of them in warranty before giving up (besides start/stop's useless, annoying and very bad for the engine).

JLR vehicles are quite sensitive to battery voltage range, make certain the main battery's no less than 12.6 volts after sitting cold overnight.

So I only took this one pic while cleaning the MAFs. The O-ring is just visible where the yellow arrow shows. Everything is back together now. Local Land Rover dealer stated they only came with a new MAF sensor - $585 bucks. Called another dealer and they stated it comes in the air filter box upper portion. Wasn't going to buy that either. Went to every Auto Parts store and no one had anything close. Finally stopped at an Autozone which had a pack of "generic" gaskets & O-rings. By golly if it didn't have one as nearly identical to the one I had. So everything 8s all back together. Time will tell. After clearing the codes from SAT night on Sunday morning, we went out for a drive and spent a few hours & well over a hundred miles before the ck eng light came back on. Besides pulling the MAFs and cleaning (spraying) them today, cleaning the air boxes as well as detailing under the hood, I added another can of fuel system cleaner & cleared the codes again. Time will tell. Besides that work, I spent some time cleaning all windows inside & out, pressure washed the wheels/tires & wells and checked to be sure the sunroof area/drains were free of leaves, dirt and drained well.

The secondary battery showed up today so I'll change that tomorrow. Sounds as tho they dont re-charge too well if they crap out that fast. At least I'll know if the batt turns the console light on and gets rid of the dash light or 8f there is another issue. I agree tho - first thing I turn off in my wife's CADDY that has that auto stop feature.

And I'll keep an eye on the main batt. Well aware of "night drains" from living with it on my 07 Vette & 03 Hummer H2. Let them sit too long in the garage and you end up with all kinds of electrical gremlins! Neither was a daily driver so i kept them on a battery maintainer when not in use. Will consider same for the LR4 as it wont be a daily.

Sorry for the looooong response.

JA -

Put the new battery in today. Hot green light in ECO switch (button) and the NO ECO yellow light on the dash is out. Ran some errands and no issues, but engine never stopped cold like my wifes Caddy does. Perhaps because we are in FL and with AC on maybe ECO doesn't engage. Going to have to find an owners manual and figure it out as I may have to set something else as well.

Without resetting the BMS, it will take about 1 week for the metrics to re-adjust so the the system engages fully.
It is essential that the codes are clear and the batteries are fully charged.

Good to know. Thanks Guy. No codes currently and the main battery appeared fairly new upon inspection & testing yesterday. I've got a n8ce OBDII Scan tool but alas it is only suited to GM/Chevy/Hummer vehicles. Guess I'll wait a week at this point & see what happens not sure if I solved the running rich issue yesterday so it may pop a code.
