sharing: effects of the failed generator.

Well that was fun. On receiving the dreaded console message that there was a charging system fault,
I decided to keep driving anyways. Afterall, it was only another 10 kms to the safety of her spot in the garage.
It was interesting to observe that the systems from least importance to most important sequentially started shutting down…
And it all ended within the course of 5 minutes.
Right up to the engine finally no longer firing.

Fun.

Good news, it's easy to replace in minnutes. On my third one now. Beware the connector though, it's brittle.

3 generators with a short lifespan. Sounds like a design flaw to me.
The generator on my Riley is original… 1951.

It’s replaced now but given your experience I just might investigate more robust options. Oversized, durable, etc.
Hmmm, would the Bosch generator for the 5.0 supercharged fit…

To be fair, the original lasted about 5 years/80K miles before the voltage regulator gave up and the replacement about 2 years/70K miles before the bearings burned up. It's a Denso, but Bosch have an equivalent, I think.

EDIT: But yes, I've never had a faulty generator on any other vehicle, including Jags.
