Default stuck in park

I did some searching of this forum and didn't find anything on the subject. My 2014 LR4 is stuck in the garage right now and won't allow me to shift out of part. The know pops up but won't turn. I have no error lights on the dash, it starts up just fine and the brake lights come on. I've read if a brake switch is bad it won't shift and the brake lights won't come on. I checked for codes a week or two ago just for giggles with my not-land rover-specific OBD reader and pulled no codes. I don't know if it's coincidence but now that it won't shift, I get code p2183 which is engine coolant temperature sensor 2. Any ideas on what's going on and how I can get it to shift would be greatly appreciated.

For giggles, turn the headlights on then start it up. Its an LR3 thing but maybe it works on the LR4. Also if you pull the center console cup holders you can get it into neutral (turn the lock, pull up on red ribbon). Not sure if starting in neutral will then let you get into reverse/drive.

Hey DakotaTraveler, thanks for the advice. I had already found the instructions to put into neutral and may have to actually do this to get it out of my garage and have it towed to a LR specialist. On my LR4, the headlights automatically come on when I start it so that apparently won't help with my vehicle. I'm coming to the realization that I'm may not be able to find the repair suggestions like I can with my 2003 D2. It seems there are instructions on how to fix just about everything on that vehicle, probably because it's been out for so much longer. I'm just surprised there is virtually no info regarding my problem via google search and youtube besides the video you provided. I tend to be a DIYer and it pains me to no end to have to take this to a dealer since I've done so much on my D2 by myself. Thank goodness for AAA at least to help with the tow costs. I see from your signature that you're in Green Bay., I just left your lovely city this morning.

Ah, I thought there was a manual on switch for the lights like the LR3, I did not know they were fully automatic with no choice. And I hate GB. LOL

Actually I have the lights set to auto, I can physically turn them on first though. Will try it when I get home tomorrow. Does the headlights trick allow one to shift with the LR3 if it's stuck in park?

It does if the shifter assembly is defective. But it is a very different design so I am not sure if it will work. The problem is with the LR3 some subset of the shift fails and power is lost one can shift, but the trans will just error out and it will stay in park. But by some weird design power can be supplied by the illumination circuit. So if the lights are manually on before starting, the shifter assembly works. Total long shot, but these trucks are so weird.

Bizarre. I'll give it a try tomorrow and post my results.

Its certainly something, I would give it a try. But before all that, maybe a hard rest would be worth a shot?

I tried starting with the headlights on, no success. I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes and also touched the positive and negative battery cables, no success. I ended up taking the shift **** out and took it apart like the link above instructs and was able to get it to turn to reverse, neutral, drive while releasing the shift lock but ended up ordering a new one. Hopefully it'll be here by the weekend. In the meantime, I'll likely take the circuit board out and look a bit closer and perhaps re-solder any suspicious connections and perhaps see if that works.
